Artist’s Bios
Melita Couta was born in Cyprus in 1974. She studied Sculpture BA at Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London and continued with a Master Degree in Sculpture at The Slade School of Art in London. She has exhibited widely in Europe, having solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus, Greece, Belgium, UK, France, Malta and also in Egypt. She is working with sculpture, ink drawings, collage and photography. Her work is inspired by themes of mythology and cartography. Her works extends in other disciplines such as theatre and scenography. She has been responsible for curating a number of theatre exhibitions as well as being the co founder of Paravan Theatre company.
Katerina Attalidou was born in Nicosia in 1973 where she was raised. She studied History at the Sorbonne, Paris I, in France and Painting at the Thessaloniki Aristotelian Fine Art School. She has exhibited widely in Europe, having solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus, Greece, France, Germany, Austria, San Marino and in Turkey and India. She is a founding and active member of the art group Noise of coincidence.
Maria Loizidou is a visual artist who participates in international exhibitions and programmes. She represented Cyprus in the Venice Biennale in 1986 and Biennale of Cairo in 2010. She also participated in Architecture Biennale of Venice in, 2004 and 2006. She collaborated with various museums, such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint Etienne Métropole, the National museum of Contemporary Art of Salonika in 2010, the Benaki museum in Athens in 2008. She realised a project in collaboration with the Metissage French programme of the Ministry of Culture in France, and Le Musee de Beaux Arts, in Lyon, in 2005. She has collaborated with architect Alexandros Tombazis in creating L’apparition des anges, an installation at the entrance of the Church of the Holy Trinity, in Fatima, Portugal in 2007. She has been a member of the AA&U collective for architecture, art and Urbanism since 2006.

Maria Photiou is an art historian and art critic writing on women’s art practices with a particular interest in looking at concepts of gender, feminism, nationalism and concepts of identity and place in contemporary art. She obtained her PhD in Art History from the School of the Arts, Loughborough University, where she is currently working as a Research Associate on a project based on her PhD research.
